Growing up, I never had any intention of becoming a teacher. In fact, I loathed the very thought! My sister was the born-to-be teacher, not me. I always wanted to write. Short stories, poems, radio ads (from my time as a radio deejay), literary analysis, reviews - whatever it was, I wanted to write it.
But after receiving my MA in English, I was a bit lost as to what to do with my degree, so I continued what I had done as a graduate student and found a position as a college instructor. Fifteen years later, I was still teaching, and it occurred to me that I had entirely abandoned my dream of writing as a career. I knew it was time to make a change.
While I am still passionate about teaching English, and there are few things I love more than talking to students about a good book, I have begun making the shift to full-time freelance writer. I have dabbled in writing and editing over the years, but truly investing myself was something I had never been brave enough to do.
My love for all things pop culture, food (especially desserts!), politics, and, of course, literature means that I am excited to write about any topic I can get my hands on. I specialize in writing literature guides, lessons, and generally about higher education, but things haven't changed much since I was younger. As long as I'm writing, I'm truly happy, and I can't wait to see what the next step will bring.
